Day 01 : Arrival in Bucharest – Welcome to Romania
Upon your arrival at Henri Coand? International Airport in Bucharest, you will be welcomed by our local representative and transferred to your hotel in the capital city. After a brief rest, step out for a guided evening walking tour of Bucharest’s Old Town (Lipscani), a charming area of cobbled streets, historic architecture, and lively cafes. Pass by the majestic Palace of the Parliament, University Square, and Revolution Square to understand the city’s past and present. Dinner at a traditional Romanian restaurant introduces you to delicious local dishes. Overnight stay in Bucharest.
Day 02 : Bucharest to Maramure? – Land of Wooden Churches
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic journey north to the Maramure? region, known for its untouched traditions, wooden craftsmanship, and village culture. Travel through rolling hills and river valleys to reach this picturesque part of northern Romania. En route, stop for lunch in a rustic mountain inn. On arrival in Maramure?, check into a traditional guesthouse in villages like Breb, Ieud, or Desesti. Enjoy a warm, home-cooked dinner made from fresh, local ingredients and interact with your hosts. Day 03 : Maramure? Folk Experience
Today is a true immersion into Romania’s rural heritage. Begin with a visit to the Merry Cemetery in S?pân?a, famous worldwide for its colorful, humorous gravestones depicting the lives of the departed. Continue to the Barsana Monastery, a stunning example of wooden church architecture, part of UNESCO's World Heritage list. Visit the Wooden Church of Ieud, one of the oldest wooden churches in the country. In the afternoon, experience a horse-drawn cart ride through a Maramure? village, visit a local weaver or blacksmith, and learn about daily village life. Enjoy a folk music evening with traditional costumes and dancing. Overnight in Maramure?.
Day 04 : Maramure? to Cluj-Napoca – Urban Vibe
After breakfast, drive south toward Cluj-Napoca, one of Romania’s most vibrant and youthful cities. On arrival, enjoy a guided city tour visiting St. Michael’s Church, Matthias Corvinus Monument, and Union Square. Walk through the Central Park, see the Opera House, and discover cozy cafes and artisan shops in the historic center. Optional visits include the Botanical Garden or Ethnographic Museum of Transylvania. Cluj offers a mix of history and modern energy. Overnight stay in Cluj-Napoca.
Day 05 : Alba Iulia Citadel & Journey to Sibiel
Depart from Cluj in the morning and head to Alba Iulia, considered Romania’s spiritual capital. Visit the imposing Alba Carolina Citadel, a well-preserved star-shaped fortress where the unification of Romania was declared in 1918. Explore its gates, bastions, Roman ruins, and cathedrals inside the citadel walls. After lunch, continue toward the charming village of Sibiel, located in the Cindrel Mountains near Sibiu. On arrival, check into a welcoming rural guesthouse and enjoy a hearty traditional dinner with homemade ?uic? (plum brandy). Overnight in Sibiel.
Day 06 : Sibiel & ASTRA Museum in Sibiu
After breakfast, visit the Sibiel Icon Museum, famous for its remarkable collection of painted glass icons. Later, head to Sibiu, one of Romania’s most beautiful medieval cities. Start with a visit to the ASTRA Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization, one of Europe’s largest open-air museums, featuring original wooden houses, mills, and churches from across Romania. Continue with a short walking tour of Sibiu Old Town, covering Piata Mare (Great Square), Brukenthal Palace, Liar’s Bridge, and the Evangelical Cathedral. Return to Sibiel for a festive farewell dinner, possibly accompanied by local musicians. Overnight in Sibiel.
Day 07 : Departure from Sibiu or Bucharest
After breakfast, check out from your guesthouse and transfer to Sibiu Airport (or return to Bucharest, depending on flight schedules). With hearts full of cultural warmth, hospitality, and memories of Romania’s rich traditions, depart for your onward journey.
