Day 01 : Arrival in Sofia – Urban Meets Nature
Welcome to Bulgaria! Upon arrival at Sofia International Airport, you will be greeted by our local representative and transferred to your centrally located hotel. After check-in and some leisure time, enjoy a panoramic introduction to the capital city. Explore Vitosha Boulevard, pass by the majestic Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and stroll through the serene Borisova Garden. If time permits, take a cable car ride up Vitosha Mountain for a spectacular city view. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a traditional Bulgarian tavern with folk music. Overnight in Sofia.
Day 02 : Sofia to Bansko – Pirin Mountain Gateway
After breakfast, begin your journey south toward Bansko, a charming alpine resort town nestled at the foot of the Pirin Mountains. En route, stop at Melnik, Bulgaria’s smallest town, famous for its sandstone formations and robust red wines. Visit the historic Kordopulov House and indulge in a wine tasting session in Melnik's underground cellars. Arrive in Bansko by late afternoon and check into your mountain-view hotel. Spend your evening at leisure exploring the cobbled lanes, traditional mehanas (taverns), and enjoying local dishes like kapama and banitsa. Overnight in Bansko.
Day 03 : Hiking in Pirin National Park
Today is dedicated to the natural beauty of Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After breakfast, join your guide for a moderate hiking experience amidst alpine meadows, pine forests, and glacial lakes. Depending on weather and fitness level, you may hike to Bezbog Lake or take on the trail toward Vihren Peak, the second-highest mountain in Bulgaria. Along the way, observe rare endemic plant species and breathtaking panoramic views. Enjoy a packed picnic lunch in the wild before returning to Bansko for some spa relaxation. Overnight in Bansko.
Day 04 : Rhodope Mountains – Shiroka Laka & Smolyan
This morning, leave Bansko and head toward the mystical Rhodope Mountains, steeped in legends and folklore. Your first stop is Shiroka Laka, an authentic village known for its well-preserved 19th-century architecture, traditional music, and cobbled streets. Continue to Smolyan, surrounded by coniferous forests and dotted with serene lakes. Visit Smolyan Lakes, the Planetarium, and optionally hike to the panoramic Neviastata (The Bride) Eco Trail. In the afternoon, explore the enigmatic Devil’s Throat Cave, linked with the myth of Orpheus and the underworld. Overnight in Smolyan or Devin.
Day 05 : Plovdiv Nature Stopover
After breakfast, begin your drive north toward Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s artistic and cultural capital. Arrive by midday and take a short walking tour through Plovdiv Old Town, visiting the ancient Roman Amphitheatre, Ethnographic Museum, and the Kapana Creative District filled with artisan boutiques and cafés. For nature lovers, a quick hike or cable car to the Hill of the Liberators (Bunardzhik Hill) offers sweeping views of the city. Enjoy lunch at a garden café before continuing to the Rila region. Overnight stay at a mountain lodge or hotel near Panichishte, close to the Rila Lakes base.
Day 06 : Seven Rila Lakes Hike
Today, set off early for an unforgettable adventure to the Seven Rila Lakes, a natural wonder and one of Bulgaria’s top hiking destinations. Take the lift from Panichishte to the upper station and begin your guided trek through this stunning glacial landscape. Admire each lake, uniquely named for its shape or legend – The Tear, The Eye, The Kidney, The Twin, and others. The trail is suitable for moderate-level hikers and offers unmatched alpine scenery. Enjoy a packed lunch with mountain views before descending back. Return to Sofia by evening for your final overnight stay.
Day 07 : Departure from Sofia
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and transfer to Sofia International Airport for your onward journey. Depart with memories of Bulgaria’s rich blend of mountains, myth, monasteries, and moments of peace in nature.
