Day 01 : Arrival at Ahmedabad – Welcome to Gujarat
Upon arrival at Ahmedabad Airport or Railway Station, meet our tour representative who will assist with your transfer to the hotel. Ahmedabad, one of India’s most vibrant heritage cities, serves as the perfect gateway to Gujarat’s ancient Buddhist legacy. After check-in, the rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your journey. If time permits, enjoy a peaceful evening at the Sabarmati Riverfront or explore the city’s cultural atmosphere. Overnight stay in Ahmedabad.
Day 02 : Ahmedabad – Junagadh (Approx. 330 km / 6.5 hours)
After breakfast, proceed on a scenic drive to Junagadh, a major center of Buddhist rock-cut caves in Gujarat dating back to the Mauryan and Gupta periods. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. Junagadh is nestled at the foothills of Girnar and is rich in archaeological heritage. Spend the evening at leisure soaking in the serene surroundings. Overnight stay in Junagadh.
Day 03 : Junagadh Buddhist Cave Groups Exploration
After breakfast, begin a full-day exploration of the Junagadh Buddhist Cave Groups, showcasing early monastic life and architectural excellence. Visit the iconic Uparkot Caves, renowned for their ancient water systems, meditation halls, and monk cells carved directly into rock. Continue to Kadia Dungar Caves, located on a hillock, known for their peaceful ambience and simplistic monastic design. Also explore Khapra Kodiya Caves, believed to be among the earliest Buddhist caves in India, reflecting austere living conditions of early monks. Return to the hotel for overnight stay in Junagadh.
Day 04 : Junagadh – Bava Pyara Caves - Junagadh (Approx. 150 km round trip / 4 hours)
Post breakfast, drive to the tranquil Bava Pyara Caves, a cluster of rock-cut caves believed to have been used by Buddhist monks between the 2nd and 4th centuries AD for meditation and residence. Later proceed to the scenic Dhank Caves, carved into a rocky cliff overlooking lush surroundings, representing a blend of Buddhist and later religious influences. After the visit, return to Junagadh by evening. Overnight stay in Junagadh.
Day 05 : Junagadh – Sana Caves – Junagadh (Approx. 140 km round trip / 4 hours)
After breakfast, embark on an excursion to the magnificent Sana Caves, one of the largest Buddhist cave complexes in Gujarat, consisting of more than 60 rock-cut structures spread across forested hills. These caves include chaityas, viharas, and meditation cells that highlight the organized monastic life of Buddhist monks. After exploring this serene and historically rich site, return to Junagadh for overnight stay.
Day 06 : Junagadh – Khambhalida Caves – Rajkot (Approx. 170 km / 4 hours)
Post breakfast, check out and proceed towards Khambhalida Caves, famous for their beautifully carved Bodhisattva figures and chaitya hall reflecting Mahayana Buddhist influence. These caves are considered among the most artistically significant Buddhist sites in Gujarat. Continue your journey to Rajkot, a key city in the Saurashtra region. Check in to the hotel upon arrival. Overnight stay in Rajkot.
Day 07 : Rajkot – Bhuj (Approx. 250 km / 5 hours)
After breakfast, drive to Bhuj, the historic heart of the Kutch region and an important hub for ancient trade routes that facilitated the spread of Buddhism. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore local markets and experience the unique culture of Kutch. Overnight stay in Bhuj.
Day 08 : Bhuj – Siyot Caves – Bhuj (Approx. 180 km round trip / 5 hours)
After an early breakfast, proceed for an excursion to the remote Siyot Caves, located near the India–Pakistan border. These ancient Buddhist caves, dating back to the 1st century AD, are believed to have served as resting and meditation points for monks traveling along ancient trade routes. After exploring the site, return to Bhuj by evening. Overnight stay in Bhuj.
Day 09 : Bhuj – Rajkot Departure(Approx. 250 km / 5 hours)
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive back to Rajkot. Upon arrival, transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey, bringing an end to the spiritually enriching Gautam Buddha Buddhist Heritage Tour of Gujarat, filled with ancient wisdom, meditation sites, and historical insights.
